Mental Illness is a condition wherein it affects a persons thinking, emotion, feelings and moods which sometimes may lead to suicides. In pursuant of the proclamation No. 452, National Mental Health week is observed every second week of October in accordance with the celebration of World Mental Health Day.
Two Common Mental Health Conditions:
Anxiety Disorders- wherein people suffers from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Panic Attacks, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Phobias. And each year, more that 18% of adults suffers from these kind of disorders.
Mood Disorders- Includes Depression and Bipolar Depression are characterized by difficulties in one’s mood regulation, 10% of adults each year suffers from these kinds of disorders.
Celebrities may look gorgeous and flawless in the lime light, and may show that there is nothing wrong with themselves, however many of them are suffering from Mental Illnesses. Recently, the iconic US Designer Kate Spade took his life by hanging herself with a red scarf in her own room. Some of the Filipino celebrities like the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano, the Mega Star Sharon Cuneta and Sarah Geronimo who recently had a controversial breakdown during her concert in Las Vegas.
Some of the Common Signs of Mental Illness:
- Excessive fear or worrying too much.
- Feeling sad or down.
- Confused Thinking
- Avoiding people
- Being alone
These kinds of symptoms can also be developed in young children since they are just learning in identifying their emotions and thoughts.
There are some ways on how we could treat this illness. Yes, it can be treated, however, there are many factors that contributes to the development of each illness.
Here are some Treatment:
Psychological Therapy- Attending physician or doctor can talk to them about their symptoms and other concerns. This therapy could help them express their feelings and what they feel.
Medication- Doctors who prescribed this one should explain the benefits and side effects of this treatment.
Community – Community is a great help for them cope up what they feel. This can’t prevent for them not to feel that they’re alone. This can help them feel that they have someone to run to.
